SERVICES

We are affiliated with Drivers Ed Direct, a reputable, online Drivers Education course that prepares students to take their written permit test.

For parents and students; steps towards getting a driver’s license.

  1. Obtain a Completion Certificate in Drivers Education from an educational institute or online course. We recommend DriversEd.com.
  2. Enroll in a behind-the-wheel driving course with a licensed driving school (like us!). We’ll mail your Enrollment Certificate that day, or we can even deliver it to your home personally if you have a time constraint.
  3. Take the Completion Certificate and Enrollment Certificate to the DMV along with identification in order to take the Permit Test (written). You must be at least 15 ½.
  4. After acquiring your permit you must complete a 6-hour behind-the-wheel driving course with a licensed instructor.
  5. Fifty more hours of driving must be completed accompanied by a licensed family member or friend over the age of 25. At least 10 hours should to be at night. A log should be kept.
  6. After holding your permit at least 6 months, if you have not commited any traffic violations nor been in a collision, you may apply for a Provisional License and take the driving test.

Go to dmv.ca.gov for more information about the Provisional License, and the varying requirements for applying for a license over the age of 17 ½.

ABOUT US

Bill's professional expertise behind the wheel literally started rolling years ago as he logged hundreds of thousands of miles driving large, commercial trucks and Class A vehicles for various companies. In later years, while still working full time, Bill pursued and completed a degree in Sociology. He also did part-time counseling. While working on his Masters Degree in Social Work, a friend invited him to become a driving instructor part-time at an established driving school. Suddenly, a new road opened up for Bill. He genuinely enjoyed being an instructor, interacting with his students, helping them overcome fears while learning how to become safe, alert, responsible drivers. He went on to teach at another driving school operated by a retired California Highway Patrol Officer, where he gained new perspectives on driving education while developing his own skills. In August of 2007, Bill opened his own school, becoming the principal owner/operator/instructor of Bills Defensive Driving School. In 2007 alone, he logged over 70,000 miles teaching students of all ages the art of defensive driving. Today, the business continues to grow. When you or your family member signs up for driving instruction with Bill, you can be sure that you are benefiting from his many years and countless miles of experience.

The PARROTS

Bill with parrots

It happened a couple of years ago, during a lesson with a young student from Marin County. While driving down the crookedest street in the world, Lombard Street in San Francisco, we heard a very loud, very strange noise. At the bottom of the hill I had the student take a left. Just then about fifty or sixty wild parrots flushed out from a nearby tree right in front of our startled eyes. This singular event was the most unique in my experience as a driving instructor.
