“We believe in building skills not just to pass the DMV test, but to learn the defensive driving needed to avoid accidents.”
Safety Comes First
Since 2007, Bill’s Defensive Driving School has set the standard for driving schools in the San Francisco Bay Area training over 8,000 students to not only pass the DMV test, but to exceed that standard. Bill’s goal is to teach defensive driving to allow new drivers to avoid accidents. We are proud that our students pass their DMV tests at a very high rate, but even more proud that they learn to become capable drivers who drive safely.
Safer Cars: We are one of the only driving schools that exceeds state requirements by equipping our cars with an instructor-side brake and gas pedal. (Most instructor cars only have the brake pedal.)
Come Join Your Student: We encourage parents or whomever the student will be practicing with to also come along so that the certified driving instructor can advise them on what specific things to practice with the student in between lessons.
Licensed and Insured: We are licensed through the Department of Motor Vehicles and we carry insurance on all of our vehicles and keep them properly maintained.
We Are Open 7 Days A Week
Passing your driving test is one of life’s joyous milestones. It’s a right of passage and we love being a part of you and your teen’s success. But the roads in the Bay Area are crowded and dangerous. That’s why our goal is to build the skills not just to pass the DMV test, but to become a defensive driver with the tools to avoid accidents.

Teen Driving Lessons
There are three steps for teens to complete to get a license.
Learner Permit
Teens are required to take a certified, state-approved driver’s education course prior to applying for their driving permit. We offer an interactive online drivers education school course, which is required for teens; however, it can be taken by anyone.
1
in car lesson
Our teen driving lessons are all private in our new dual-equipped midsize sedans. We never have more than one student in the car to increase safety and promote a one-on-one learning experience that optimizes the teen drivers education about the rules of the road.
2
prepare for DMV test
We strongly encourage parents to also come along so that the certified driving instructor can advise them on what specific things to practice with the student in between lessons. To prepare for the driver’s test, parents are required to spend 50-hours driving with their teen.
