Bill’s Defensive Driving School is great. We had a great experience all the way around. The office gets back to you in a timely manner and is knowledgeable and helpful. The online portal makes it easy to look up future appointments. Steve was my son’s driving instructor and he was amazing. He was always on time for pick up, very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Would recommend this company to anybody.

I have 2 students at Bill's school. One passed his driving test first time, even though when he started lessons there was only 3 months left until his permit expired. My other student is making great progress. Also, Bill's school is really great administratively. Booking lessons is easy. The front office staff are helpful. The cars used for lessons are in great condition.

Roland is so patient, warm and kind while being a very informative teacher. My older son and friend’s kids also had him and turned out to be excellent drivers! I highly recommend Bill’s Defensive Driving as I’m sure all their instructors are top notch.

Stephen Wallace from Bills Defensive Driving School was a very good driving instructor. He took my kid from never even being behind a wheel before, to driving confidently on the freeway in no time flat. He was very friendly, kind, and patient. He put both my kid and I at ease. He never lost his patience and he had a lot of great driving advice for my kid. I truly believe he gave my teen all the tools needed to pass the driving test. I can happily say my kid has now passed on the first try! Definitely recommend him, he loves his job and it shows!

Instructor was amazing gave all the confidence my son needed

I had Stephen as my instructor for 4 lessons and he was amazing. The kindest and most patient guy, really was understanding with my initial anxiety. Was lovely to talk to and a great conversationalist. Only negative experience was due to a scheduling error and a very rude gentleman on the phone who was snarky and unhelpful.

Bill and Steve were absolutely awesome! I would recommend this school to anybody. They are very patient and thorough. My daughters were very comfortable with them. They are also very flexible with scheduling.

We chose Bill’s for the Teen/Parent lessons and are glad we did…there’s a lot to know and this system will help us be better drivers/teachers ourselves…it’s a great way to support your teen driver. Both of my daughters went to Bill's and had amazing experiences! Roland was the teacher for both of them 3 yrs apart. I rode along with them and learned so much about how to help them. Roland is an absolutely amazing driving instructor. He was a fantastic teacher with my daughter 3 years ago, and now he is teaching my son. He explains the driving process incredibly well, referencing handmade diagrams to illustrate points and has helpful feedback throughout the lesson. I had instructors Shelly and Roland. They both were extremely kind and patient, and even if they had to critique me, they would always be very calm. They took me through great material, and I believe that if you pick Bills, you will definitely pass the test, because they give you all the specific information and practice needed to do so.

I have been thinking about this review for 7 years—that’s how long ago I took 6 lessons from Bill. I was 29 at the time, and very nervous about learning to drive. Bill made me feel safe, and has given me driving skills that have served me well. I’m a teacher, and knowing what to teach when is a super important part of being effective. Bill didn’t overwhelm me with everything all at once. Instead, he helped me learn skills that built on each other over time. His office was easy to work with, and the scheduling was convenient. Before working with Bill, I took three lessons from another teacher at a different company that freaked me out and upset me. In contrast to my first lessons with a pushy instructor who pressured me to move faster than I was ready to, Bill was reassuring and patient. Where the other teacher made me feel like they were doing me a favor by giving a lesson, Bill made me feel like I was a VIP. I highly recommend Bill’s Driving School…so much so that I came back to write a review!

Informative first driving lesson- instructor was thorough and cautious. I was surprised, however, that my teen son only drove for about 15 minutes out of a 2 hour lesson, though he did feel he learned a lot. Communication with the driving school by text and voicemail is slow. Can take several days to hear back.

Mr David is the perfect driving instructor for my daughter. He is calm, patient, and able to reiterate the rules of the road while staying acutely attentive to her movements and (un)safe driver behaviors. He does all that with kindness and empathy with a first-time student (and her mom) driving through the streets of San Francisco. Highly recommend!

David is a stellar instructor. He explains defensive driving technique with detail. For some skills like parallel parking or hand positioning while turning, he walks through the different methods. One technique may be safer while another is required for certain scenarios. This taught me how to think as a defensive driver rather than just follow what I am told. My two lessons with David dramatically improved my driving ability in the chaos that lives on SF’s downtown streets.

Paul was fantastic! Knowledgeable, patient! My daughter (age almost 21) has a serious anxiety disorder and had a horrible experience with her first driving instructor. She was comfortable with Paul almost immediately and never looked anxious during her 2 hour lesson. Not only did he teach her the rules, but also good habits and how to show her habits on the driving test.
